BzFlag Launcher

Greetings all!

What with various fixtures and exams recently, I've been far too busy to do anything much programming wise, but when the Messenger Plus! Live Script Developers Competition came up, I felt obliged to enter (not because I wanted the T-Shirt, though.... :$).

My first script, Countdown, was rejected because it was similar to a script already in the Database. Oh well, I'll post it up here anyway. However, my second script, BzFlag launcher has been accepted (woohay!).

You can download it from here:
http://www.msgpluslive.net/scripts/view/177-BzFlag-Launcher/

Enjoy!

REACTION TESTER

New Program Release!

I've been working on this program for some time now - probably about one and a half months. I'm pleased to announce:

McTedo Programming Reaction Tester (Version 2).

I know you guys never saw Version 1, thats mainly because I had initially only created the program for a bit of fun before Open Evening. When the Biology teacher said he'd like to keep it for use in lessons, I felt obligated to re-write it properly (ie. not very quickly) and for it to be somewhat more user friendly.

That took a short while, during which most of my good friends couldn't have a conversation with me without Reaction Tester being mentioned - I've already apologised to them (and they've laughed it off).

A team of 9 people were involved, most of which are new to the McTedo Programming devlopment team. Thanks people;
Jack Bartholomew - (Jvahk) - Sound Engineer + Joint Top Bug Submitter
Chris Hallam - Joint Top Bug Submitter
Kieran Franklin - (KieranF) - Tester of numerous projects
Chris Hill - (Minkus) - Tester and Code Reviewer
Kyle Buxton - Tester
Chris Reeves - Sound Engineer
Juan Ward - GOLD CD Designer
Edward McCutcheon - Programmer
Mr. McMahon - consultant teacher

Now something slightly different for McTedo Programming...
Reaction Tester is DONATION-WARE (not FREEWARE). If you like the program, we request that you donate £5 (Single User, £20 Site Licence) to BBC Children in Need. We really want to know how much we've raised, so please send cheques (payable to 'BBC Children in Need Appeal') to 'Reaction Tester Donationware, Colchester Royal Grammar School, 6 Lexden Road, Colchester, CO3 3ND. We'll collect all the cheques together and pay them in to Children in Need.

For more information on the program, features, screenshots, Children in Need and to download, please visit:
http://pudsey.mctedoprogramming.com

Thanks, and hope you like it!

(Suggestions for new features for Version 3 have already been received, and we like some of them, but don't expect a new version for about a year, minimum!)

Its been a while...

Hey everybody!

Its been a while since I've had a chance to use the main McTedo Programming website... but here's the news update as to why:
1. I've been really busy - workload has increased somewhat
2. Lots of visitors recently
3. Been away on holiday (yay!)
4. I've been working @ a company in London, writing scripts for them, whilst earning some money. The scripts were somewhat complicated, but great fun to do. I can't release them here unfortunately.
5. I've been working on another project, which another news post will inform you about (its a fun project though).
6. The secret project is still progressing, just very slowly as everybody is so ridiculously busy.

Over the summer I built a new computer, so am now armed with a power house to do my programming on - its a very nice change as it hardly takes any time at all to compile an installer now.

Sorry for the lack of anything much happening recently on McTedo Programming - as you might have gathered from above, the main culprit is work and being busy...

UPDATED: LOGIN ISSUES

Hello people,

We've been moved onto Powweb's new servers and a whole host (pun!) of problems have cropped up.

The most pressing problem regards logging in.
You will be unable to login and we have no idea when it will be fixed.
Its not our fault (I'll put an explanation below for those feeling brave).

We've also got a bit of lag on our email and a few dodgy MySQL server connnections.

I will be trying to resolve the email problem but really its Powweb's fault.

UPDATE: Essentially, Powweb won't do anything about it. We've got no way of converting the passwords, so creating a new account is really the only way around the problem. If you have a friend who is a member of McTedo Programming staff, you can ask them to reset your password.

==== Explanation for Email Problem ====
When you register, your password is encrypted irreversibly with MySQL's PASSWORD() function. This is stored in the database. When you login, the password you submit is encrypted with the PASSWORD() function then compared with the one in the database. If they are the same you are allowed to login. The problem stems from a change in how PASSWORD() creates the encryption. Its changed. This means that the stored passwords use the old way of encrypting it (looked like this: *45D48818603E0CBA4BDCB76E316954F288E8AC90) will not match with the results of the new method (looking like this: 5f0aaa002c8a2591). So, the login fails. We can't swap everyone's passwords to the new method because they are irreversibly encrypted and we have to have the original password to generate the encryption. I'm able to login because I have direct access to the database and can reset my password.

Powweb seem to know about the issue but are being a bit quiet. You can find out more here: http://forum.powweb.com/showthread.php?t=66711 - my post is by user "McTedo".
